How to get to Labuan Bajo

Here are some tips on how to get to Labuan Bajo in different ways from Bali, Lombok and Gili Islands. All of them will depend on the time you have!!

Labuan Bajo is becoming one of the most visited destinations in Indonesia and this is because it is the entry harbour to the Komodo National Park.

BY PLANE

Flying is the fastest way to get there, especially if your somebody with time constraint. Frequent flights from Bali and Jakarta will help you to get to Labuan Bajo.

But the good news is that direct flights have recently been opened from Lombok to Labuan Bajo. So getting to Labuan Bajo from Lombok and its busy Gili Islands will be much easier. And they are not expensive, you can find them for 800,000 IDR and it is only one a day.

Our friendly advice to you that if you come in high season like the months of July, August and September, book your flights well in advance as they usually sell out very quickly.

For us the best portal for internal flights is www.nusatrip.com.

PUBLIC FERRY

This is the cheapest option as you can imagine and may suit somebody with ample time and doesn’t mind compromising on comfort. It’s a combination of a ferry and bus journey. Getting to Labuan Bajo in this way will take approximately 24h (but 24h Indonesian).

If you are in Bali or another destination in Indonesia you have to go to Lombok to start this journey. From Bali there is also a local ferry that takes you to Lombok, and you have to go to the bus station, where you will catch a bus that will take you to Sumbawa where you will catch the final ferry that will take you to Labuan Bajo.
For this trip we are preparing another post more detailed to make it easier for you to find the way.

Its approximate price is IDR 400,000.

4 DAY TRIP FROM LOMBOK

If you are an adventurer this is your option to get to Labuan Bajo !! This trip can be made in both directions but it does not sail out every day and follows a time-table of sorts. Boat companies differ and some are better than the other for the same price so you must check well before you sign up for one. Soon you can book this trip in Ihasia.

The duration of this trip is 4 days, sailing from Lombok & passing through Sumbawa, Komodo National Park and finally arriving at Labuan Bajo.

The good thing about this type of trip is that it visits the most important points of Komodo Park.  Highlights include a visit to the dragons, snorkelling in Manta Point etc (for more information: read our post about them).
