Komodo closes its doors?
These days we are reading in the social networks and media many news that Komodo will close its doors. But is this true? What does it mean? Is Komodo closing?
Well it’s true, but only half truth! What is being planned for January 2020 is to close the island of Komodo. But this does not mean that the Komodo National Park is closed.
HOW DOES IT AFFECT US IF KOMODO ISLAND CLOSES?
If Komodo closes, it only affects the island of Komodo. The Komodo National Park is formed by many islands, not only by the island of Komodo. As are Rinca, Padar, Siaba Besar and an endless number of them. If the island of Komodo closes it does not affect at all the activities that can be done in the park.
We have to think that there are many people who make a living with the National Park. And I’m not talking about foreigners who have opened some business here, but about many local people and the local economy who would be devastated if the Komodo National Park closes.
DOES THE CLOSURE OF KOMODO AFFECT THE VISIT OF THE DRAGONS?
If Komodo closes that doesn’t mean we couldn’t visit the dragons. The Komodo island is not the only place where we can visit them. We have Rinca island where we can keep visiting them. So the only change will be that the tours will go to Rinca instead of Komodo.
DOES IT AFFECT SNORKELING OR DIVING?
As you can see, the fact that Komodo island closes doesn’t affect to the most popular activities in the park, as snorkeling and diving. So we will keep enjoying the park from the surface, and also beneath it.
So if you are plannig to come to Indonesia and more specifically to Komodo National Park, don’t change your mind. Indonesia is suffering many fatalities this years, let’s no let misinformation become in one of them.
KOMODO NATIONAL PARK IS OPEN AND WILL REMAIN!!
